html - Unable to get navigation bar inline with logo -

i'm trying navigation bar on html page inline logo wont budge. assume because following flow of html page, dont want use absolute positioning, did try , use 'left' , 'top' properties in css didnt it. please advise i'm going wrong?

there quite few errors html structure, unclosed tags, , odd placement of elements. have reworked code see example works modern browsers. it's not cleanest code should on right path. http://jsfiddle.net/lj9yn/18/
